Founded by Philip Lopate and Donald Barthelme in 1986 and edited by graduate students at the University of Houston, Gulf Coast is a journal of literature and critical art writing whose contributors represent a flow of international cultures, voices, and aesthetics. A finalist for the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses 2016 Firecracker Award, Gulf Coast has become one of the most respected student-run literary journals in the U.S. with over 3000 subscribers.
