Gulf Coast Journal Panel + Reading

Join the poetry editors of Gulf Coast as they read their freshest work! Founded by Philip Lopate and Donald Barthelme in 1986 and edited by graduate students at the University of Houston, Gulf Coast is a journal of literature and critical art writing whose contributors represent a flow of international cultures, voices, and aesthetics. A finalist for the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses 2016 Firecracker Award, Gulf Coast has become one of the most respected student-run literary journals in the U.S. with over 3000 subscribers. Recent published writers include Robin Coste Lewis, Barbara Hamby, Terese Svoboda, Danez Smith, Shane McCrae, and Dan Beachy-Quick. Work first published by Gulf Coast has often been featured in the Best American Poetry series.
After the short reading, the editors will offer insights and take questions from the audience about publishing, editing, and community programming. Gulf Coast will also feature a table where subscriptions, individual issues, and merchandise will be sold.
