Jon Wagner

Jon Wagner is a former Director of the MFA Writing Program at California Institute of the Arts where he is a core faculty member in the School of Critical Studies. He is also a Visiting Professor of Film Theory in the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California where he received his PhD in Film Studies. In addition to essays on film, video, and documentary, he has published poetry, translations, and studies of modern French literature, including the work of Saint-John Perse, Yves Bonnefoy, and Marguerite Duras. With Lynne Goodhart he edited, translated, and introduced the book Fugitive Suns; Selected Poetry of Andrée Chedid (Green Integer 37, 1999). With Tracy Biga MacLean he published a seminal study on the cinematic representation of television, Television at the Movies: Cinematic and Critical Responses to American Broadcasting (Continuum, 2008). His book with Denise Spampinato, Reality’s Written Language: A Critical Anthology of Classical and Contemporary Film Theory appeared in its First Edition from Cognella Academic Publishers in 2017.
