Gabrielle Civil

Gabrielle Civil is a black feminist performance artist, originally from Detroit MI. Recent  performance works include “a ritual of nest and flight” (Toronto, 2017); “…hewn and forged….” (Salt Lake City, 2016), "Say My Name (an action for 270 abducted Nigerian girls),” (USA, 2014-2017) and "Aide-mémoire” (Zimbabwe, 2013). Her writing has appeared in Small Axe, Something on Paper, Rain Taxi, and more. She has guest-edited and contributed to special issues of Aster(ix) and Obsidian. Swallow the Fish, her memoir in performance art, appears in the #RECURRENT series of CCM Press, 2017. The aim of her work is to open up space.
